New Community Ambassador

We are thrilled to announce that Gareth Murphy has joined us as the new Community Ambassador for Regenerative Ocean Farming & Production on the Connecting Nature Enterprise Platform (CNEP). Gareth brings a wealth of experience in the sustainable marine farming sector and is eager to foster collaboration within the community, driving forward innovations in regenerative ocean practices.

About the Regenerative Aquaculture and Production Community and CNEP Platform

The Regenerative Aquaculture and Production Community, hosted on the Connecting Nature Enterprise Platform (CNEP) by our project partner Horizon Nua, is a dedicated space for advancing regenerative ocean farming. CNEP serves as a broader hub for nature-based solutions across Europe, fostering collaboration among innovators, businesses, and researchers. By connecting sectors, CNEP supports projects that aim to accelerate the transition to a nature-positive economy.

Our community focuses on regenerative aquaculture practices, including seaweed and mussel farming, as key solutions to combat climate change and promote ocean health.

Our new community ambassador: Gareth Murphy

Gareth Murphy is a seasoned professional in the aquaculture and blue economy sectors. With over two decades of experience in sustainable marine farming, Gareth has managed mussel farms in Ireland's Bantry Bay and is actively pioneering innovative solutions in offshore seaweed farming.

As a second-generation aquaculture farmer and a graduate of the SAMS Enterprise Seaweed Academy, Gareth combines practical experience with academic expertise. In his current role at Simply Blue as Seaweed Project Manager, he spearheads projects like Óir Na Farraige, a nearshore seaweed farm license application, and North Sea Farm 1, the first privately funded co-located seaweed and offshore wind farm, sponsored by Amazon’s Right Now Climate Fund. Gareth is committed to scaling sustainable, restorative farming in Europe. With a goal to integrate seaweed farming into local economies and create impactful climate solutions, he plays a pivotal role in connecting communities, businesses, and stakeholders to the broader mission of ocean regeneration.

As a Community Ambassador, Gareth aims to foster collaboration, share insights, and promote sustainable practices in regenerative ocean farming. Through regular webinars, community meetings, and outreach efforts, he works to expand the community’s reach and impact, while supporting the growth of the nature-based enterprise sector globally.
